Strategic Roadmap

May 9th through July 25th, 2023, the MAPS School Board and administration collected input from students, parents/guardians and staff in MAPS on defining their “desired daily experience.” This was a key step in shaping the long-term plan for the district. Prior to taking the survey, partners were asked to review the draft Desired Daily Experiences linked in the sections below. 

Following the closing of the Desired Daily Experience survey, a revised draft was presented to the strategic planning team, composed of groups representative of all school staff and district department staff as well as MAPS School Board members.  These groups have supported the development of a plan to implement what the partners' needs are for desired daily experience. Once final, the strategic plan will include a three-year operational plan, a school improvement plan and a three-year school board governance work plan.

April 2024, Mankato Area Public Schools partners were invited to review and comment on the draft Strategic Roadmap.

At its regular meeting on May, 6th, 2024, the MAPS School Board approved the Strategic Roadmap.

The results of this strategic planning process with Teamworks International has provided MAPS with a framework to implement an ongoing continual planning model centered on meeting the needs of its students. This work will launch the 2024-2025 school year.

School Environment:

• I feel safe and secure everywhere in school
• I feel comfortable being myself and valued for who I am.
• I have strong connections with both other students and adults at school.
• I can explore my strengths and have opportunities that will shape my future. 

Learning: 

• I get to do things every day that are interesting and hands-on and they help me understand and use what I learn in real life. 
• My schools supports me in making choices that affect how I learn. 
• I have choices about what I do during school and my activities outside of school. 
• I go to a school where they make it clear what they expect from me to do well, and it is consistent.

Engagement:

• In my school, what I think and say really matters in how things are done every day. 

Student Environment:

• My child is physically, socially, and emotionally safe at school, which contributes to their overall academic and social growth. 
• My child's school values the well-being of its staff to ensure a positive school culture. 
• My child's school supports them as they transition into, within, and out of the MAPS system. 
• My child has convenient, accessible, safe transportation or safe walking routes to school. 

Learning:

• My child has options to meet their unique academic needs and opportunities to enhance their educational experience. 
• My child feels included and represented in their learning experience. 
• My child's school has clear behavior expectations and is consistent.

Engagement:

• My child's school partners with me. 
• My child's school provides timely, consistent, clear, and accessible communication. 

School Environment: 

• I work in a safe and supportive environment, and there is a clear plan for responding to a and following up on student behavior. 
• I know what is expected of me to support the academic, behavioral, and emotional development of students. 
• I experience timely, transparent, and consistent communication that is relevant to my work. 

Learning:

• My work makes a difference and my professional development is supported.
• I have resources to effectively do my job well and engage students in their learning. 
• I work in a future focused school district that provides innovative and flexible educational opportunities for students and staff. 

Engagement:

• I am supported, heard, and encouraged by leadership
• I am valued and respected for my experience and contributions as a professional in my field.
